Texas in the summertime. There's not much to say about it, except
that it's hot. Hot AF. You are
either in a pool or in the a/c. No one spends much time outside to avoid
melting or just spontaneously combusting from the heat. Today it was 116 degrees here in Dallas. Yea. You read that right, 1- 1- 6. It was
miserable to say the least. We spent some time at the pool, but don't dare walk
from the chair to the water without flip flops or you will be left with very
little skin left on your feet!
Doesn't that just look DIVINE?? |
One of the best ways we've found to beat
the heat is by combining water activities with cold drinks. Several years ago my mom made us a whiskey slush drink, I don't
know where she got it or I'd give credit. It's the perfect summertime pool
drink! It's cold, refreshing and the whiskey helps me to not care as much when
my kid does a cannonball into the pool and soaks me! My husband is not a huge
whiskey fan, so we got to thinking of a way to modify this recipe to make it a
vodka drink. Tito's = life. Somewhere along the line, we decided a cherry limeade slush with
some vodka would be amazing, so we got to work on the new/modified recipe. The
first batch was a hit and vodka cherry limeade slush has been a resident in our
freezer ever since!
Seriously...YUM! |
This recipe is super easy (like most of mine are!) and takes
almost no effort. So without further ado, let me share with you my favorite
summertime drink!
INGREDIENTS
64oz Cherry Limeade (we use the Sparkling Ice brand from the
store, but you could just as easily pick up a few from Sonic -minus ice)
1 Can Frozen Limeade
Water (Fill limeade can 1 time)
Vodka (In our house, we drink Tito's), you will need enough to
fill the limeade can 1-3 times to your desired taste
1 Large Jar OR 2 Smaller Jars Maraschino Cherries (and the juice)
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together in a large, airtight container. After
4-5 hours, stir the mixture and put back in the freezer. Stir well before
serving frozen (with a spoon and/or straw) depending how frozen they are.
Look at those delicious cherries! |
That's it! Super simple, delicious and uber refreshing in the summer heat. The frozen, alcohol infused cherries are my favorite part!
Let me know if you make it and how you liked it! Also, if you want
the whiskey version of this recipe, comment below and I'll make another post for
that one!
