As my son's school year has been winding down, I've been searching for a neat end of year teacher gift for his teachers. They are such sweet ladies who put up with my son 3 days a week and somehow still have a smile on their face when I come to pick him up (seriously, my kid has a LOT of energy and is a handful)! So I wanted to give them something they could use that was more personal than a gift card, but still keep the cost reasonable since I'd be buying/making 2 gifts. Let me stop now and say that I do not think there is anything wrong with a gift card, because that allows the person to choose what they want (and you'd be certain they enjoyed the gift of their choosing), but my crafty side won and I felt like putting something together!
I've come across different gift basket ideas on Pinterest and knew that was the way I wanted to go, but any basket that I'd want to use would probably end up being more than I wanted to spend. So I started thinking and on one of my (many) trips to Walmart (seriously, I'm in there buying something several times a week, it's pretty ridiculous), I noticed they started putting out summer items and I saw some cute drink dispensers (like these)! I figured they'd be the perfect size and go with my "summer" theme!
So once I knew the size of the container I was going to use, I started making a list of things I could fill it with! I knew lemonade or tea mix had to be in there, along with cups, to go with the dispenser. Then I just started filling with other summer essentials! I did choose 2 different designs on the drink dispensers and tried to keep the filler items in the same color family (I might be a little OCD, I've accepted this fact).
Here's the list (and cost) of each item in the gifts!
Drink dispenser - $4.88
Crystal Light Lemonade Mix Packets - $2.48
Cups (came as a pack of 4, I used 2 in each container) - $1.98 (only $.99 or each gift)
Small Sunblock - $2.47
Kitchen Towel - $2.64
Nail Polish - $1.97
Gum - $.96
Chocolates - $1.50
Chapstick - $3.00? (I had these in my couponing stockpile, so they were free for me!)
So the total cost for each gift came to just under $21.00! I am excited to give these to his teachers his week and really hope they enjoy using the items this summer! I also plan to attach a note to each and have little man "sign" it.
Some other items I thought might go well with this gift:
Lightweight summer scarf
Fun lipstick or lipgloss
Hair bows/Headbands
Summer themed placemats
Grill utensils/kabob sticks
Off! Bug Repellant
Another "basket" option that would be cute is to use a small/medium cooler and fill with summertime items. This could be large enough to include some larger items like:
Beach towel
Outdoor games (badminton, bocce ball set, etc)
Summertime plastic dishes
Citronella Candles
Summer themed table cloth
These are just a few ideas, but these can always be customized and geared toward the personality of your child's teacher. Maybe a basket full of items with their favorite sports team logos or a basket full of all things in their favorite color!
Stay tuned for a post next week with the gift I put together for my brother's high school graduation!
